Quality Controller

We are looking for a Quality Controller to join our team and play a key role in ensuring that our fruit consistently meets customer specifications and maintains the high standards for which A C Goatham is known.

Working within a fast-paced packhouse environment, you will be responsible for monitoring product quality throughout the packing process, carrying out inspections, and supporting continuous quality improvement across operations.

This vacancy is for a Heavy-Duty Quality Controller position, with the main focus of the role being quality control activities within our Dispatch Department. The role involves regular movement throughout the dispatch operation, handling samples and products, and carrying out quality checks in a fast-paced working environment. The dispatch area is temperature controlled and can be very cold, therefore applicants should be comfortable working in chilled conditions for extended periods. The role also includes manual handling duties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducting quality checks on fruit throughout the production and packing process.
  • Monitoring product quality against customer specifications and company standards.
  • Recording quality inspection results accurately and maintaining quality records.
  • Identifying quality issues and escalating concerns promptly to the relevant teams.
  • Supporting investigations into quality-related non-conformances and implementing corrective actions where required.
  • Monitoring product presentation, packing quality, labelling, and traceability.
  • Carrying out shelf-life, defect, and weight checks as required.
  • Assisting with customer audits and internal quality inspections.
  • Ensuring compliance with food safety, quality, and company procedures.
  • Supporting operational teams to maintain the highest quality standards.
  • Undertaking manual handling duties as required within the dispatch operation.

What We're Looking For

  • Previous quality control experience within a food manufacturing, fresh produce, or production environment is desirable.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards.
  • Good organisational and record-keeping skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues across different departments.
  • Basic computer skills and confidence recording information electronically.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Reliable, punctual, and hardworking.
  • Comfortable working in a temperature-controlled environment, including prolonged periods in cold conditions.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

What We Offer

  • 45 hours per week across 5 days.
  • Core working hours 07.30-17.30 with flexibility required to meet business needs. Occasional late shifts required on a rota basis.
  • Starting rate of £13.31 per hour. Overtime paid at time and a quarter after 45 hours.
