Multi-Skilled Engineer

An opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and diligent electrically biased Multi-Skilled Engineer to join our Engineering team. The purpose of this role is to support with and facilitate the planned, preventative and routine maintenance of a range of equipment and machinery on site to ensure the smooth running of our facility.

 

Responsibilities may include:

  • To ensure all machines and equipment are maintained to the optimum standards through adequate maintenance
  • Using fault finding techniques, react quickly to faults and breakdowns, communicating clearly with affected parties and working efficiently to fix the issue.
  • Minimise the likelihood of breakdowns by keeping equipment in a good state of repair and seeking continuous improvement opportunities by looking for ways to reduce the cost impact to the business as a result of downtime and ensuring a systematic planned maintenance programme is in place
  • Communicate with production teams to advance plan for downtime on machinery for service/modification or repairs that need carrying out
  • Maintaining a stock of critical spare parts as well as ordering parts for service and repair work
  • Ensuring work is carried out in a safe and efficient manner and in accordance with health and safety regulations
  • Assisting with the installation and commissioning of new equipment
  • Maintaining technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks and benchmarking best-practice

 

Our perfect Multi-Skilled Engineer would have:

  • Proven experience of working as a Multi-Skilled Engineer in a similar manufacturing environment
  • An electrical apprenticeship served (City & Guilds), HNC, ONC, NVQ Level 3, 18th Edition or similar
  • A strong electrical basis with mechanical skills
  • A strong awareness of and full commitment to the adherence of health and safety guidelines
  • A proactive approach with a focus on driving improvement
  • Excellent attention to detail; strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills
  • Experience of using CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management Systems)
  • Effective communication skills; can engage with all levels of the business with a minimum of B2 in English
  • The ability to manage multiple tasks with the ability to reprioritise whilst continuing to manage expectations
  • PLC fault finding & diagnostics experience

 

The hours you would work:

A 4 on 4 off rotating shift comprising of 07:00-19:00 and 12:00-24:00. During peak periods, shifts may change to 09:00-21:00

Salary : £57750 /year

Dispatch Operative - Late Shift

An opportunity has arisen for an efficient and dynamic individual to join our team in the role of Dispatch Operative.  The purpose of this role is to ensure the safe receipt, storage and dispatch of our products.  In addition to this, our ideal candidate would also have the ability to operate our pallet and reach trucks as and when required.   

Responsibilities Include:

  • Loading and unloading products from incoming and outgoing vehicles with the use of powered trucks, consolidating and storing them in the appropriate locations or delivering to relevant departments/areas.
  • Operating of powered trucks (PPT and Reach) as and when required
  • Working a cold store environment (with temperatures ranging from 0-5 degrees Celsius)
  • Accurately picking products ready to be palletised and dispatched
  • Operating a handheld scanner to ensure data is accurately recorded in our internal database
  • Repetitive manual handling of products (up to 18kg)
  • Operating a clean as you go procedure to keep the dispatch area clean and tidy
  • Maintaining excellent levels of hygiene and health and safety standards
  • Reporting any damaged or missing goods, non-conformances or accidents to relevant managers to ensure appropriate action is taken 

 

Our perfect Dispatch Operative would have:

  • Current and in-date PPT and Reach truck licenses (desirable)
  • Previous experience of working in a warehouse or stores based environment would be an advantage
  • Understanding of and adherence to health and safety protocols and food hygiene standards
  • The ability to interpret and follow written and spoken instructions
  • Comfortable with a physical role where manual handling is a frequent requirement
  • Respect for others and values diversity; happy to listen and work as part of a team
  • A can-do attitude with a flexible and dynamic approach
  • The ability to use own initiative and thrives under pressure
  • The ability to learn how to operate our handheld scanners

 

The hours you would work:

A 5-on, 2-off shift pattern, comprising 45 hours per week (overtime is possible/allowed if production requires it).
Working hours: 14:00–24:00, with flexibility required.

Rate of pay:
£13.73 per hour for the 45 hours, with prospects for growth, advancement to the next level, and salary increases. (1.25× the regular hourly rate if the total number of hours worked exceeds 45 hours in a workweek.)

Forklift Driver

We are currently recruiting a Forklift Driver to join our Production team. This role will involve working across all A. C. Goatham sites, as required.

This opportunity is open to candidates have previous forklift experience.

The purpose of this role is to support the safe and efficient movement of products within our yard and production areas. The successful candidate will operate forklift trucks and contribute to maintaining a safe, clean, and productive working environment.

Responsibilities include:

• Safely operating forklift trucks to transport goods within production and yard areas
• Feeding packhouses with packaging and produce as required
• Ensuring products are stored correctly, including within cold stores
• Working in a cold store environment (0–5°C)
• Loading and unloading cold stores and deliveries
• Loading tipper trucks
• Keeping forklift driving areas free from spills and obstructions
• Carrying out regular checks on forklift equipment
• Working on apple/pear graders, tray packs, and pre-size operations
• Assisting with additional tasks within production and yard areas
• Repetitive manual handling of products (up to 18kg)
• Maintaining clean-as-you-go standards
• Upholding high levels of hygiene and health & safety
• Reporting any damaged goods, non-conformances, or accidents to management

Our ideal Forklift Driver will:

• Have previous experience in a forklift, warehouse, or stores-based role
• Hold a valid forklift licence/certificate (desirable but not essential)
• Take responsibility for their own actions
• Understand and follow health, safety, and food hygiene standards
• Be comfortable in a physical role with regular manual handling
• Work well as part of a team and communicate effectively
• Show a positive, flexible, and can-do attitude
• Be willing to learn and develop new skills, including handheld scanners

Working hours:

Forklift Drivers operate on a rotating shift pattern:

Early shift: 06:00 – 17:00
Day shift: 07:00 – 18:00
Late shift: 13:00 – 24:00

Flexibility is required, working 5 days per week in line with the shift pattern.

Salary :

£13.15/h–£14.15/h, depending on experience
